The Lazuli guppy was named after the color of the aquamarine blue of the Lapis Lazuli gem.

The original creator of Lazuli is Taketoshi Sue and it first appeared in 1999. The Lazuli has an additional color gene on it’s Y-chromosome thus making the blue head. It’s basically a Japan Blue with this extra gene.
